1.Q: What is black oxide coating?

A: Black oxide coating is a process which provides a conversion coating on iron which changes the surface of the material to a naturally occurring black iron oxide. Though the black oxide plating does provide some corrosion protection by itself it is necessary to put a protective oil on this finish to keep it from rusting.

2. Q: What is carburizing?

A: Carburizing also referred to as Case Hardening, is a heat treatment process that produces a surface which is resistant to wear, while maintaining toughness and strength of the core. This treatment is applied to low carbon steel parts after machining, as well as high alloy steel bearings, gears, and other parts.
